I am usually not the over-the-top-raving type, because I find it hard to stay objective and level-headed when I communicate my enthusiasm and therefore risk not being taken seriously (and I don't think there's anything I hate more). But I feel I have to make an exception today: the recent appearances of The Christian McBride Band at Ronnie Scott's here in London have blown my mind, topped my - already high - expectations and reminded me how much fun it is to listen to, watch and hang with a really chilled out and fun bunch of musicians. I've known the guys from previous gigs (photo w/ Geoffrey Keezer - the piano/keyboards master, my twin brother) and have always loved their sound. But this time - be it the intimacy of the venue or the additional time all of us spent together - I felt a new level of uniqueness and natural musical drive and flow coming from the band stand where every musician shared the total understanding of where to go with a tune and how to lift the music out of the ordinary. It was the excitement of a perfect Jazz experience that I am seeking.May 2006 | June 2006 | July 2006 | August 2006 | September 2006 | October 2006 | November 2006 | December 2006 | January 2007 | February 2007 | March 2007 | April 2007 | May 2007 | June 2007 | July 2007 |
