Wishing upon the star

This album was not on our radar. It was as an imminent release, but the design had never meant to be on our desk. But it came as it sometimes does: a close working relationship with the artist, simultaneous development of ideas and the fear of relinquishing control to an unknown party. Joe Locke "Wish Upon A Star"The great backstage photography by Joanne Levey and the phenomenal music by Joe Locke and his quartet, beautifully arranged for symphony orchestra by Ryan Cohan and Tim Garland, made the task of designing an album package over a single weekend surprisingly easy. The great support and trust from Motéma Music and their president Jana Herzen created an additional environment in which the short turnaround became and easy task.

Our second design for Motéma could not have been more different from “Signing“, our first collaboration. Musically a more “middle of the road”, less of a Jazz than a Classical Pops recording, it required a look and feel that communicates a mood, more than a concept or an idea. The winter and – at least digitally – pre-Christmas release time further made a romantic/scenic design the most obvious choice.

The glossy finish had turned the artwork into a classy package.
