“Lay Down My Heart” video EPK

The studio footage of this latest Joe Locke release on the Motéma Label came from NY videographer Thomas Piper Jr. But it was the excellent photography by Joseph Boggess that inspired to the lightness and blueish depth of the album art and subsequently translated into our video editing. This 4 minute clip allows insight into the making of “Lay Down My Heart – Blues & Ballads Vol 1″.

On the eve of the 2013 jazzahead! event in Bremen, Germany, traditionally in late April, we sent out this short announcement about Motéma’s presence at this international trade fair and the availability of Joe Locke’s brand new CD “Lay Down My Heart”.

This is the first email broadcast announcing Joe Locke’s new Motéma release “Lay Down My Heart” which  is being introduced at an exclusive pre-release concert on April 20th 2013 in Rochester NY. As the existing data didn’t quite allow further geo-targeting, the combination of album news and gig alert was the safest way to communicate this as promotional artist highlight.

Designing the packaging for Joe Locke‘s new Motéma release “Lay Down My Heart” gave me the opportunity to work with NY photographer Joseph Boggess for the first time. And another easy and inspiring creative collaboration with a musician and his label.

Wishing upon the star

This album was not on our radar. It was as an imminent release, but the design had never meant to be on our desk. But it came as it sometimes does: a close working relationship with the artist, simultaneous development of ideas and the fear of relinquishing control to an unknown party.
